[Lua] Cheat Engine – Plugin | All Windows Transparency

Post by mul0 »

⚡ All Windows Transparency — Plugin for Cheat Engine ⚡

Lightweight plugin for Cheat Engine that allows you to quickly toggle transparency for all opened Cheat Engine windows.

When working with multiple Cheat Engine windows at the same time, the desktop can quickly become cluttered. Memory Viewer, debugger windows, scan dialogs, structure tools, and other forms may overlap each other, making it harder to keep track of the target application behind them.

This plugin solves that problem by applying a subtle transparency effect to opened Cheat Engine windows with a single hotkey. It is especially useful for reverse engineering, trainer development, debugging, and multi-window Cheat Engine workflows where visibility and fast switching matter.

The plugin preserves each window’s previous opacity state, so when transparency mode is disabled, affected windows are restored back to how they were before.

📌 Plugin Information

🚀 Plugin Features

  • ✅ Global Transparency Toggle — Toggles transparency for opened Cheat Engine windows.
  • ✅ F11 Hotkey Support — Quickly enables or disables transparency while working.
  • ✅ Previous Opacity Restore — Restores each affected window to its previous opacity state.
  • ✅ Multi-Window Support — Works with multiple opened Cheat Engine forms.
  • ✅ Focused Cheat Engine Detection — Toggles only when a Cheat Engine window is focused.
  • ✅ New Window Refresh — Updates newly opened windows while transparency mode is active.
  • ✅ Safe Alpha Handling — Uses guarded property access and alpha value clamping.
  • ✅ Reload-Friendly Design — Prevents duplicate timers and hotkey handlers after script reloads.

🧩 How It Works

  • All Windows Transparency monitors the F11 hotkey while Cheat Engine is active.

  • When the hotkey is pressed, the plugin scans opened Cheat Engine windows and applies a transparent alpha state to them.

  • Before changing a window, the plugin stores its current AlphaBlend and AlphaBlendValue settings. This allows the plugin to restore the original state later instead of forcing every window to a fixed value.

  • When transparency mode is active, a small refresh timer keeps checking for newly opened Cheat Engine windows. If a new window appears, the plugin applies the same transparency mode automatically.

  • Pressing F11 again disables transparency mode and restores all affected windows to their saved opacity settings.

🖥 Example Use Case

  • Suppose you are debugging a game while using several Cheat Engine windows at once:

  • Memory Viewer

  • Find out what accesses this address

  • Auto Assembler

  • Dissect Data / Structures

  • Main Cheat Engine window

  • Instead of constantly moving windows around, you can press F11 and make the Cheat Engine workspace slightly transparent. This helps you keep the target application visible while still working inside Cheat Engine.

💻 Compatibility

  • Cheat Engine 6.4 or newer
  • Works with Cheat Engine Lua autorun plugins
  • Supports multiple opened Cheat Engine windows
  • Designed for standard Cheat Engine forms and helper windows

⚙️ Installation

  • Download the Lua plugin file.
  • Place it inside the Cheat Engine autorun (Cheat Engine\autorun) folder.
  • Start or restart Cheat Engine.
  • Open any Cheat Engine window or tool.
  • Press F11 while a Cheat Engine window is focused.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • The F11 hotkey only toggles transparency when a Cheat Engine window is focused.
  • The plugin stores and restores each affected window’s previous opacity state.
  • Newly opened Cheat Engine windows are updated while transparency mode is active.
  • The transparency value is intentionally subtle, so windows remain readable.
  • If another plugin also modifies window transparency, behavior may depend on plugin load order.

I’m going to work on a game tonight. You seem like a guy (or gal) after my own heart. My screen gets crazy sometimes. I’m excited to try this out. Will report back.

I could not get this to function. I had CE focused, but F11 did not work. I didn’t dig into the script at all, I think I need to see if something is conflicting (I have a few other plugins— nothing using F11 that I am aware of). I really think this has some really great potential. One tick that always drives me nuts with CE is when you want to add an address every other window goes to the complete bottom of the stack. You need to make sure whatever you need has a clear shot all the way to desktop with nothing able to cover it. Anyhow, I didn’t forget about it, but I’ll get into it within the next few days. Do you have any thoughts/suggestions on what may be happening?

Hi! Thanks for the feedback. I agree, CE's window management can be frustrating.

To help us find out why F11 isn't working for you, I've just uploaded v1.1.

Changelog:
Added Plugin.Debug = true.
Added debug messages to the CE Lua console (it now logs: loading, timer, F11, CE focus, transparency toggle).

Next time you test it, please open the Lua console and let me know what it outputs when you press F11. Take your time, no rush!
